A merchant and his wife were going to have a baby. When they finallly had their first child, they named him Omar. When Omar grew to be 18, his father planned to rule his country and his son (omar) would right beside him to rule. Everyone knew Omar as a sweet loving child, raised in a very good middle class house hold. When Omar got the big head, wanting to be just like his father, and he killed his father while he was sleeping, to gain the power his father once had. This was a disgrace to his mother. Omar's mother suffered the lost of her husband. Later his mother passed away in her sleep. People once said that the woman died a peaceful death, that she was dreaming of being reunited with her husband. No one was charged with the murder of the king. Omar goes and seeks a lady for his arm and finds a lovely lady named Charniece. She was the most beautiful women you have ever saw. Omar and his wife wants to start a family. While Charniece is giving birth, she dies in the process. This devastated Omar. He went into depression. A wise man told him the reason why so many bad things happened to him was because he did wrong to people so it came back to bite him right where it hurts. THE END

Prostitution

I think that prostitution is up to whom ever it should be upon. I think that you should be able to do anything with your body if you wanted to. Although we have the ability to do whatever we want, the consequences of doing this can lead up to you being in jail. I think prostitutes should not be able to be in a committed relationship.

"Love"

How do you know when you love someone? That is a question I hear all the time! I think when you love someone, you have strong feelings for them! When you think about them when you don't even know you were thinking of them. Love is a very strong feeling and you know it when it's there.

Songs that Celebrate

3. The relationship between humans and gods in the poems are the both heal, protect, help in some way or form. The exsist no matter what and they are very loving. Also they love to dance.

4. There seems to be a positive tone or a good tone towards the various praise songs. In the last poem, it describes how the river goddess heals what the doctor cannot, and feeds honey to the children, also describing how beautiful she is.

5. The praise song I find most appealing is Oshun. This praise song talks about how people call on her, she replies with wisdom. She helps the sick, help the ones in fear, How every one looks up to her and they count on her to get them where they need to be.

Death Penalty

I think that the death penalty is for some people. The things some people do, they deserve to be sentenced to death. For Example: child molesters, why do it and you know it's wrong. Just think some man/woman is sexually active with an under age child.

Religion

I believe religion is a big part of a persons life. That affects how you live and the way you carry yourself. There are many religions in the world but you shouldn't choose one that a friend has or what your family wants, choose one that fits you personally.

A Drop of Milk

1. Were the things created alive with a soul and thoughts?

2. In the story or myth, the world was created from a drop of milk, then later on, a creator god, Doondari, came and created the stone. Then so on and so forth.

4. I would interpret the events as showing that everything that was created is connected in some way, because the first part says that stone create iron, and iron created fire and so on.

5. Because there is nothing left to defeat because all the other creations had been defeated by each other, and only death remains.

6. The human truths that I find in this myth was death; which happens to anyone, blindness, and sleep. I also find that the creations have human feelings such as pride and worry.

7. If man had not been proud, there would have been no need for Doondari to create bad things such blindness, worry, sleep, or death. Then man could have lived happy and free from these things that cause them pain.

8. In A Drop Of Milk, in the beginning, The was a drop of milk, In the Bible, God created Heaven and Earth. In Hebrew, there was already a being creating the world, and in a drop of milk, a drop of milk existed.

9. The Drop of Milk myth doesn't make any sense because how can death exists because of worry was to proud

Crimes

I think that people make their own decisions. They are not forced the do what they don't want to do. Crime happens in many different forms. Most crimes happen because of peer pressure or to get attention from their loved ones. Most of the crimes committed by teens are located in the community.

Women in Botswana

Botswana is located in Southern Africa. There has been said that close to half of 37.2 million adults living with HIV are women, according to new UNAIDS/WHO report in Botswana. In Botswana, men and women are not treated equally. This has been a major problem in the past years that have come. Most of the things that happen in Botswana is because their opportunities are not divided among the men and woman who live there.Women have more constraints on time than men.

In 2003, 37% of pregnant women in Botswana were infected with HIV. The cases have gotten worse ever year. The clinics offered lots of prenatal screenings, therefore there were a large majority of women found to have the disease. Women are brutally beaten and raped by their male partners daily. The environment and living conditions are very significant to the well being of the population. Being that the women have to go every where by foot.

Women in Botswana are having a double career as professionals and mothers are often judged as less able to perform their scientific work. By the time they go to college, many young women lose confidence in themselves and, especially, in their ability to do math and science. In the work place, Women are discriminated because men think women can't do good enough work as men, most of the work that women in Botswana are pursuing jobs such as teaching and engineering. Men appreciate women working lower than them to make them feel better.

Living Together

Well in Florida, living with your boyfriend or partner without being married is called "shacking-up". This is common down here in Florida.

I think that this is a good thing and a bad thing. Couples should not room together. In the bible, it states that if you room with your partner, you are sleeping with them. Therefore, this is called fornication. However, a good side to living together is to determine if you want to marry them in the future.

Family

I agree and I diagree. Family are the ones who will be there for you when no one else is there to help you. However, family can also be the ones who hurt you the most because you care about what they say and think about you. My family is very close and supportive in the things that I do, but I have friends who have family memebers who often hurt them more than others around them. This is unfortunate because everyone needs someone and family is usually there when everything is going wrong to pick you up and strengthen and encourage you. But so many teens today donb't have that support base, and I feel sorry for them, that is why I try to be the best friend I can be to others.

Chinese Poetry

1. The first poem appealed to me the most was the poem called: "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter."

2. I would describe the relationship between the speaker (which is the wife) and her husband a to early relationship. They got married at the age of fourteen and he left at the age of sixteen, but the relationship is very loving.

3. The speaker's feelings in the second poem called: " Still, Night Thoughts" i thoughts was wanting to be home because the speaker says how he dreams o home.

4. The effects that the waterfall has on the speaker in " Gazing to the Lu Mountain Waterfall" would be, the way it's calm, at rest, beautiful.

5. Visualizing the events that happened in the poems made it easier to understand the poems and maybe even pictured the people.

6. The speakers feelings in " The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter" were much deeper than the feelings in the other poem. A difference was the other poem talked about how the leaves felt.

7.People today view nature as a relaxing thing. It helps you when you are very stressed. People rely on nature for many things but most of all for it's beauty.

Handguns

I agree with you. It would be safer if students or just people in general could not walk around with hand guns. Someone could truly get hurt by someone being angry and just start shooting at you. Nobody wants to hear that they have lost a loved one towards a handgun. I think that what they are doing in your country is very good- having a law against handguns.

Drugs

I think that what they are doing is very bad. I think that the parents are just hurting themselves and the child. Drugs don't do anything but kill brain cells.

Mandela and Pericles

1.Stephen Biko and the Athenian soldiers who were praised by Pericles have in common: both died fighting for what they thought was important. Biko died in an African prison and the soldiers died in a war. Therefore i can not support this with any quotations.

2. Mandela was trying to keep alive "the flame of patriotism which burnt in their hearts and minds of the like of Steve Biko; to redeem the pledge to give up a more human face to society for centuries trampled upon by the jackboot of humanity...." 2b. Mandela hoped to accomplish for his country; by forging a new and prosperous nation, also continuing to fight in which Steve Biko paid the supreme sacrifice."

Poems by Sappho

1. The poem i understood best was the second one called: He Is More Than a Hero. the reason why i understood it was because she was explaining how he makes her weak when she she's him, and how her heart beats fast when he laughs, and how her body shivers when they touch. How she can't speak when he is near her and she grows paler than she ever has before.

3.The way she feels incomplete with out Anactoria, how she reminds her of her sparkling glance and the way she steps, which she admires. The speaker feels about the second poem; how she lusts for him even know she is breathless when she comes in contact. The setting described in: To Aphrodite of the Flowers, at Knossos was nature. How their surrounded by flowers, trees and herbs.

4. Two statements that best apply to Sappho would be: she values intimate moments of friendship. Also, she appreciates the beauty of nature.

6. I think Keisha Cole or Mariah would do Sappho's poems justice if they were set to music. I think they would be able to really make the poems to the best ever. Every one would be
singing these lyrics word by word.

Think Through Mahabarata

Writing Option 2

2. The best Teacher I ever had that really made me excel in any subject was my 8th grade teacher Mr. Greally. He was the only teacher who made science fun and exciting. He was a very good teacher. I took 10th grade science. This is so because the actually had us doing science experiments outside and inside of the class room. Every student wanted to get into his class. Mr. Greally always said, "If you can't touch it, whats the reason for studying it." His teaching methods were very good from my perspective. He taught me a lot that year. Yes, Mr.Greally was somewhat like Drona, but not really.

Ancient literature and people

1. Similarities between the cultures of Mesopotamian era were very organized, the way the language was spoken. Some differences were that the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Egyptians all believed in many different gods. The Hebrews ( who we know as Jews today) only believed in one main god.

Greek Culture

1. The the religion of Greeks were very different from Jews, Christians, and Muslims because the Greeks had no scared writings like a bible or any commandments.

2. The Olympian gods human characteristic's were alike because they showed love, hate, and jealousy towards others.

3. Some features of Athenian democracy were Council of Five Hundred& a lawmaking body called the assembly.

4. Greeks were the greatest thinkers of ancient Greece.

5. Some of the events included in the Olympic games were boxing, wrestling, the javelin and discus throws, and races of all kinds.

6. Year's of training made the Greek language easy to use.

Teen Parents

I feel you on dat one!! I know a lot of teenagers who are attending my school and are pregant and aren't even 16 years old yet. My aunt is 34 and she even has a hard time dealing with her baby. So just imagine how difficult it is for a teeager. I want to wish you the best of luck...Take care.

Egyptian Literature

2. I could describe the tone/attitude of Nu's speech was very modest.... which i thought was very good.

3.The speaker thinks Ra should be praised because when the Egyptian god of the sun rises, everything comes to life, everything wakes up. When the sun setts, all the world goes bleak, without the sun everything is dead.

4. The speaker's dreaming of herself standing like a bride beside her love because she can't wait to see him. She is planning on seeing him and has been counting on this special moment to happen.

6. The selection I thought gave me the strongest sense of the speaker as a person was "Whenever I leave you, I go out of breath. The way the speaker describes the way they lust for each others love, the person's kisses and the way they feel when the people are not together are indescribable.

7. In the poems: I'm going downstream on Kingswater Canal & Whenever I leave you, I go out of breath; they differ because in the first poem, she talks about how she can't wait to be reunited with her love and the second one states she can't be without her love.

8. The way Egyptians prepared for death is some what similar to what we do. They hurt the way we do but at the same time they don't want to lose a loved one.

Think Through Gilgamesh

Abortion

Well...... I think that it's not the childs fault to be coming in this world. I understand that she has been raped, but you don't have to kill an innocent child. Let that child live a life that can be better than your's!!!!!!

Quest Story

In the story/movie FREEDOM WRITERS, the quest story was to help 150 students read and pass their freshman year. These are not the kind of students you would call "well-behaved". These students come from the streets where their homes are gangs and drugs and even most of them live on their own. Mrs. Gruwell was not well prepared for want these next four years will bring her to tears. Even one of the former teachers told her she wear a bullet proof vest, but from what she heard she did not let that stop what she's loves to do. At th e end of this, she's even has to fight for her students because everyone doubts that they will not succeed. All-in-all, she got her students back. She even has The Erin Gurwell Education Project which is a tax-exempt, nonprofit, public benefit foundation, organized under the laws of the state of Delaware ans tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This movie also tells how freedom of speech helped them achieve the way they are. Don't bite your tounge for anything or anyone!!!!!!!!!!!
